Not always. Wisdom teeth are extracted when they are painful, infected, crowded, or may potentially give rise to future problems. Each case is carefully assessed by our oral surgeon prior to advising on the treatment.
Anesthesia and sedation can be used so that it is not uncomfortable for the patient. Mild discomfort post-operatively is an acceptable side effect and can be controlled with the right treatment and care.
The majority of patients get better in a few days. Complete recovery will usually take between one to two weeks and can vary depending on the nature of the extraction and one’s own healing ability.
